A Journey That Began With Passion

EVGE began with John Papageorgiou, an olive oil expert and sommelier, and his wife, Rania. Their journey took them across Greece in search of oils that reflected the land itself—pure, honest, and deeply flavorful. They discovered it in the groves of Messenia, just outside of Kalamata.

There, on slopes more than 1,000 feet above sea level and only 12 kilometers from the sea, they found trees nourished by mountain air and coastal breezes. The olives ripen slowly and evenly, developing character that no blend or industrial oil can replicate.

A Bridge to America

In the United States, Carol Rogers Papaletsos, who had lived in Greece herself for 20 years, brought this vision forward. She believed that families here deserved access to the same authentic oils she loved abroad. Together with John and Rania, she helped create EVGE as a brand rooted in honesty, tradition, and family.

Heritage You Can Taste

Our groves sit only twelve kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea, where the combination of mountain air and sea winds gives the fruit a character that cannot be replicated elsewhere. Just down the road lies the Mycenaean Palace of Nestor, a site that has stood since Homer’s time. Olive oil has been pressed and celebrated here for thousands of years. Every bottle of EVGE carries that same legacy forward, connecting your kitchen to one of the world’s most storied landscapes.

Where Tradition Meets Today

Our groves aren’t just “from Kalamata.” They grow on the slopes above the town of Diodia, in Messenia, Greece, a landscape dotted with olive trees that have nourished families for centuries. If you stand there today, you are only twenty-five kilometers from the ancient Palace of Nestor, where archaeologists discovered 3,200-year-old jars of olive oil. This is the same region where Homer set his stories, where olive oil was not only food but also culture, medicine, and ritual. EVGE continues that living legacy, rooted in a place you can still walk today.
